A bookmark
We ALWAYS get my father in law a book for his birthday. ALWAYS. He is hard to shop for...anyway.. I thought I'd make him a bookmark to go along with it. It was a simple project and took about 1/2 hour. I made it so there is a place to keep your pen, and slip a notecard if you like to jot notes while you're reading.
But honestly it will be used just for a bookmark, and it's pretty cute. I put his name on the ribbon by using the freezer paper method. I used puffy paint, which I now know is not good. It puffs away fine detail. I LOVE it for other projects, but not small names...and next time I think I'll use interfacing. Other than that I love how it turned out.

Gifts for nieces
I did these a while ago and just now found the pictures!
For my nieces birthday I decided to make them some personalized items..
For my nieces birthday I decided to make them some personalized items..
A covered note book (inspired by the ones I did for the girls church books) with their initial on it. I used their favorite color and added buttons to spruce it up. Then I sewed elastic to the inside back cover, so they could keep it closed if wanted...
Then I made them lounge pants. My older Niece Tori LOVES owls. (The same one I did little notebooks with) So I free-handed a stencil with freezer paper and painted an owl on, then I used fabric to give it more texture and detail.
On the back I put her name. (Using the cricut to cut out the letter stencil)
My younger niece.
She LOVES monkey's so I came up with this for her pant.
I didn't take pictures of the rest..but I think they really liked it.

Boomin' with babies!
My friends are all pregnant, or recently pregnant. (pretty much) So between all of them (and a b-day present for my daughter's friend) I have been busy making 8 presents for babies! So expect a lot of posts to follow. This one was for my friend Somer, expecting boy #2
For some reason I was in a theme mood. Stars. I wrapped it all up in a star bag, with a star tag. Let's see what's inside...

First off a Star themed sign. I decided to try to make it weather proof so she could hang it on her door to avoid those pesky doorbell ringers...I coated it all in mod-podge. BAD idea. It kind of looks unfortunate, but it will do the job...
Now a star bib, taggie toy, and burp cloth. And notice that the paper and fabric match!
This won't seem cool, because you don't have a frog named pock with an orange dot on his shoulder...but they do! This stencil was a PAIN to make! But I LOVE how it turned out!
Congrats Somer!

A Birthday Present
I saw this cute place mat a fellow blogger made. I forgot where, {sorry} and decided I had to make them as a birthday present for my MIL. So I made her 6 for all her grandbabies.

Headband display tutorial
I sometimes do local shows and am always looking for cute ways to display my products.
This is for metal headbands. It doesn't hold a lot so it's a good way to show case your favorites with the rest to the side. And you can refill it as they go!
I got my holder at the D.I. for $1.00 !
See this hole and metal? I also used putty filler in my supplies, but you don't have to..
First, take your top off
Sand a little bit to give it some texture to grab the paint.
Fill the hole with your putty, let dry, and sand to get a smooth surface. (I obviously did this after a coat of paint...I was learning too)

Paint your desired color. Spray paint would work great too, but I didn't have any. So I just used my craft paint, which worked pretty well.
You don't need to paint the stem...it will be covered. Finish all the coats you need and let it dry.
If you want to sand the edges a little, now is the time.

Grab your fabric. You don't want to use something too loud. Remember what you want people to notice is your headbands, not the fabric on your display. It can have some interest, like mine, just not too much! Measure it against your roll of paper towel. Cut it three inches longer than the amount you need to fully cover it. And 4 inches taller.
To avoid sewing a nice hem, we're gluing it! Glue over one edge 1 1/2 inches.

Now roll, making sure you have a good two inches extra on top and on bottom.
You should still have an inch and 1/2 to over lap the edges. Glue it all the way and you will have a nice finished edge.

Do this all the way around, and to the other end until you have a nice covered paper towel. You want it to look nice, but as you can see it doesn't have to be perfect. I used home decor fabric so it was much thicker and stiffer. If you want to use a thinner or even stretchy fabric it will lay and fold a lot smoother and smaller.
Now place your covered roll on your holder, a viola, you have a display for your headbands..
Just add some headbands and you're good to go!

This is for metal headbands. It doesn't hold a lot so it's a good way to show case your favorites with the rest to the side. And you can refill it as they go!
Supplies:
Paper towel holder
Roll of paper towels
fabric (thin and stretchy works best..it's not what I used)
hot glue
sand paper
paint and brush -or-spray paint

Now take one end of your roll, where you should have two inches hanging over. Glue around the inside of your roll and tuck fabric inside.
